Hair Trends | 8 Stunners That Slayed the 2017 Golden Globe Awards

Oh, what a night! The 2017 Golden Globe Awards was the first major awards show of 2017, and there were several big winners for the night. Viola Davis and Tracee Ellis Ross were notable winners. The night was full of stars, of course, and there were some really incredible styles on the red carpet. Check them out our *ahem* Golden Globe Awards hair winners for the night:

Tracee Ellis Ross

Tracee Ellis Ross won this year’s Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Television Comedy or Musical for her leading role in the comedy series Black-ish. This marked Ross’ first Golden Globe, and the first time an African-American woman has won the award since 1983, when Debbie Allen received the honor.

Ross wore her signature voluminous curls in a low-sophisticated ponytail that showed off her 10,000-watt smile. The look set off her platinum-colored strapless beaded sheath beautifully.

Viola Davis

Viola Davis, star of Fences, won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture. Davis has been nominated in previous years for her roles in the movies Doubt and The Help. She’s was also nominated twice for her role as Annalise Keating in ABC’s How to Get Away with Murder.

Davis wore a full, shoulder-length bob to top off her floor-length, bold yellow Michael Kors stunner.

Janelle Monae

Janelle Monae was gorgeous in her trademark black and white – this time it was an Armani Prive dress with an asymmetrical hemline. Her hair was perfect in a diaphanous updo studded with jewels. It was the perfect complement to her delicately accessorized jewelry.

Yara Shahidi

Yara Shahidi was bubbly in her modern take on a classic pulled-back ponytail. Bound down the length and lightly teased, Shahidi’s playful ponytail capped off her it-girl look. The Black-ish star’s Schiaparelli Couture dress made for a perfect playful red-carpet look.

Thandie Newton

If the theme for the night’s hair was simple, pulled-back locks, Westworld star Thandie Newton wore it best. Her white sequined, off-the-shoulder Monse gown was reminiscent of a flame at the bottom. Newton kept the look sleek with hair that let the dress do the talking.

Issa Rae

Insecure star Issae Rae is known for her signature braided updos. She was radiant last night in a white beaded Christian Siriano gown that showed off her flawless bronze complexion. The architectural look played up the texture and detail of Rae’s hair.

Kerry Washington

Kerry Washington wore a much-debated Dolce & Gabbana dress (we didn’t love it when we first saw it, but it’s growing on us). Made with lace and rhinestone embellishments and a tulip hemline, the dress had classic Dolce & Gabbana layered complexity. Washington kept her blunt-cut hair simple, letting her caramel highlights play up the yellow-gold of her gown.

Ruth Negga

Ruth Negga was serving us sultry glamour in her Louis Vuitton gown. She wore her close-cropped hair in soft finger waves for the occasion. Negga was like an art deco-inspired stunner.

Who do you think wore it best? Who deserves an honorable mention for this year’s Golden Globes?
